Could you introduce yourself?!

Hi, my name is Oisín Donoghue. I'm a CORU registered Physiotherapist, a member of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists, as well as a Certified Athletic Therapist. I am also a Galway man, please don’t hold this against me - haha!!

What / where did you study?

I attended Gortanumera primary school, a rural school just a couple of miles outside Portumna Co. Galway where I later attended secondary school at Portumna Community School.

Post completing my Leaving Cert, I attended South East Technological University (SETU), achieving a Bachelor of Science in Sports Rehabilitation and Athletic Therapy. I was grateful to receive the Highest National Score in the Final Certification Exams.

Shortly after concluding my Undergraduate Degree, I completed a Master's Degree in Physiotherapy at Teesside University in Middlesbrough, England

Since gaining my Master's, I've completed various supplementary Post-Graduate courses including:
  Dry Needling certification
   PHEEC Emergency First Responder course
   Sports Taping
+    Concussion Diagnosis and Management
   Moving and Handling certification

What kind of experience do you have?
While studying at SETU, I was thankful to have the opportunity to work in the United States, gaining valuable experience with collegiate athletes. Adapting to the additional demands of various sports outside of those typically played at home was extremely interesting.

During my Master's Degree, I completed 1,000+ hours of clinical placements, developing my professional skills in both private and public sectors. Acquiring extensive expertise in the renowed James Cook University Hospital, a regional major trauma centre was certainly a highlight of my development.

Following the completion of my Master's Degree, I worked in Orthopaedics in the Midland Regional HospitalTullamore. Most recently, I worked in a well recognised Private Physiotherapy Practice in my native Galway. In addition, I've worked with numerous GAA and Rugby teams in and around the East Galway area.

When a position became available here at Gold Standard though, I knew it was the place for me to help people reach their goals.

What are your professional interests / likes?

All things Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy (conditions that affect the muscles, joints, bones, ligaments and tendons) is my real passion. I enjoy treating multiple demographics of all ages from the general population to sporting athletes.

The variety of outcomes people are working towards is really what makes this job so enjoyable. Whether it's returning to sport, managing pain, or simply moving more freely, each person's goals are different, and it's very rewarding to help them get there.

What kind of personal interests do you have?

Like most Physiotherapists, it’s anything sport! I would have tried my hand at most sports at a young age to my teenage years. At the moment, I enjoy Hurling with Portumna GAA, as well as gym-based training and a round of golf when time allows. Outside of playing, I am fond of watching and keeping tabs on many sports, it could be anything!

Apart from the above, I enjoy spending time with family and friends and heading off on a holiday when I can.

Tell us something about yourself that others may not know?!

I fancy my skills in the kitchen - my family would definitely say I'd need to spend more time there before I could make a statement like that though!

Anything else you'd like to add?

For those of you who it may be your first time attending Physiotherapy,  we understand you might have some apprehension or uncertainty as to what to expect. Rest assured, we will make you feel as comfortable as possible and support you getting back on track.

All the best,
Oisín,
