Could you introduce yourself?!
Hi, my name is Seána Grace and I’m a CORU-registered Chartered Physiotherapist from Carrigatoher, Nenagh!
What / where did you study?
For primary, I went to Burgess N.S (which is just up the road from where I grew up!) before progressing to St. Mary’s Secondary School in Nenagh.
After finishing my Leaving, I headed to Castletroy to study at the University of Limerick. There, I undertook a Bachelor of Science degree in Physiotherapy and was delighted to graduate with First Class Honours (1.1).
In my 4th year in U.L, I completed a scoping review exploring how virtual reality can help with rehabilitation for people with Parkinson’s disease - a project that really sparked my interest in using innovative tools to enhance patient care.
Since qualifying, I’ve continued to build my skillset with additional courses, including:
+ the IRFU SAFE Rugby Level 2 First Aid course,
+ a specialised Sports Taping and Strapping technique course, and
+ Certification in Moving and Manual Handling.
What kind of experience do you have?
During my time in Limerick, I was fortunate to gain hands-on experience across all aspects of Physiotherapy. This included working with musculoskeletal conditions, older adults, and patients with neurological and respiratory needs.
My clinical journey has extended to several outpatient facilities, including The Derg Centre here in Nenagh, the Portlaoise Primary Care Centre, and Abbeyleix Medical Centre. In these clinics, I contributed to patient care in both individual and group settings.
I’ve also cared for patients in Hospital environments. This included the Medical and Respiratory wards at University Hospital Limerick, as well as the Stroke and Medical / Surgical wards at Portiuncula University Hospital in Ballinasloe.
While working in outpatient settings, I also assisted in the delivery of differing Exercise Classes (such as Pulmonary Rehabilitation and Falls Prevention ones), something I really enjoyed.
What are your professional interests / likes?
I’ve a major interest in muscle and joint injuries, which developed over many years of playing sport. My own personal experience with injury, and undergoing Physiotherapy myself (which I received from Gold Standard!) played a major role in shaping my decision to become a Physio. My own injuries have also taught me first-hand exactly what patients go through, and fuelled my commitment to helping people manage setbacks and return to the activities they love safely.
While working at Portiuncula University Hospital, I also spent a lot of time with older adults, which I loved - it ignited a major interest in healthy ageing. I really enjoy creating exercise programmes that promote pain-free movement, preserve independence, and improve quality of life for older people in our community.
What kind of personal interests do you have?
I play camogie with my local club, Burgess-Duharra while I also enjoy going to local GAA matches in North Tipp at the weekend.
I like to meet up with family and friends over coffee or long walks, and I like to travel when the opportunity arises - recent summers in America and Asia being particular highlights!
Tell us something about yourself that others may not know?!
I am a baking fanatic and love to try new recipes and techniques. I bake for all family events and occasions!
Anything else you'd like to add?
I’m really delighted to be able to care for people in my own local community. I commit to doing everything I can to ensure every patient feels comfortable and supported throughout their treatment, using personalised plans tailored to their specific needs.
Yours in health,
Seána
